Marketing and promotion for the film began on May 19, 2010.[114] The official website's homepage included a hub called "Real Cybertron," which allowed fans to watch episode specials from the campaign. The hub also features downloadable art, videos, and other images related to the film and the Transformers toy line.[115] Since July 2010, the film's official site has featured a blog called "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which includes coverage on the Transformers brand narrative and marketing, production updates, and film promotion.[116]
On August 25, 2010, the first poster, featuring Sentinel Prime in silhouette, was released along with a teaser trailer. A series of TV spots began airing during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards on September 6, 2010. The film was featured in television ads during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards on May 15, 2010.[117] The following week, Paramount released the "Optimus Prime World Tour" website that included a countdown to the release of the teaser trailer as well as other elements to promote the film.
